Does Leo XIV use archdioceses as dumping grounds for unwanted Vatican officials? Italian priest Filippo Di Giacomo criticises the appointment of Cardinal Mauro Gambetti as Archbishop of Chieti-Vasto. Chieti-Vasto is a historically significant episcopal see in central and southern Italy. Di Giacomo suggests that Leo XIV instrumentalised the Archdiocese to get Gambetti out of the Roman Curia. Di Giacomo also reports an unconfirmed claim that Gambetti accepted the transfer only after being promised an auxiliary bishop. Gambetti reportedly intends to retain other “commitments”. If true, the archdiocese could end up with an archbishop whose attention is elsewhere. Di Giacomo warns that the same misfortune may await the Archdiocese of Pescara-Penne, with the likely arrival of another “castoff from the Roman Curia.”

It is more expedient and more profitable that a man sometimes lack consolations in this life, than that he have them always after his own will, namely, fleshly consolations. Nevertheless, that we have not sometimes heavenly consolations, or that we so seldom feel them as we do, is through our own default : for we seek not to have true …Mususu
Leo XIV left Rome’s Gemelli Hospital this afternoon, four days after undergoing surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung. He walked unaided, greeted well-wishers outside the hospital, and returned to the Vatican. Doctors reported satisfactory results from his latest medical examinations. Further tests are still pending.

US Bishop bans St. Michael prayer after Mass. Bishop Mark Beckman of Knoxville, Tennessee, has directed priests to discontinue the communal recitation of the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel immediately before or after Mass. In his October 16 article, he claims that in order to celebrate the liturgy “in accordance with the mind of the Church” priests need to “catechize the people of God as we move away from additional prayers recited together immediately before, during, and immediately after Mass.” Additional prayers - including those to St. Michael, St. Francis, and the Holy Spirit - should not become regular additions to the celebration of Mass. He cited the Second Vatican Council's call for a liturgy marked by “noble simplicity.” #newsIisjgbwbuz
But at that time shall Michael rise up, the great prince, who standeth for the children of thy people: and a time shall come such as never was from the time that nations began even until that time. And at that time shall thy people be saved, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth, shall awake: some unto life everlasting, and others unto reproach, to see it always. 3But they that are learned shall shine as the brightness of the firmament: and they that instruct many to justice, as stars for all eternity. 4But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time appointed: many shall pass over, and knowledge shall be manifold.

The surgeon who operated on Leo XIV, Prof. Stefano Margaritora, sees no medical reason to cancel the November trip to South America. He explained that the lung cancer was discovered “entirely by chance” during routine abdominal examinations. A small spot appeared at the base of the lung. Had it been slightly higher, he said, it would have gone unnoticed. The Pope had no symptoms. Margaritora also recounted finding Leo XIV rearranging chairs in the hospital chapel just two days after surgery. When staff offered to do it for him, the Pope reportedly replied: “It doesn't matter. I can do it, so I do it.” The surgeon expects a rapid recovery.
Leo XIV-appointed Spanish Bishop José Antonio Satué sent a supportive message to the 15th gathering of homosexual Christians in Chipiona, Spain, on October 9–11: “You have much to contribute to the Church.” Leo XIV appointed Satué Bishop of Málaga in June 2025 despite his public record as homosexualist. Satué described homosex "blessings" as “a step forward”. The homosex gathering, organized by PADIS Canarias (Pastoral para la Diversidad Sexual en Canarias), attracted just over 100 participants. Monsignor Satué wrote them that everyone deserves to be heard, welcomed, and treated with dignity. He claimed that homosexuals suffered within the Church and urged that it not be trivialized. At the meeting, participants agreed to establish a nationwide network of homosexual Christian groups, extending into Portugal. They also intend to prepare a document outlining their proposals for bishops, possibly by the end of 2026. They called for pastoral ministry developed “with” homosexuals rather than …Mususu
Seat of Wisdom has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

On the local level, say on Boards of Not-for-Profits, this is exactly what happens when the person who should run things declines because it would be too much trouble. The outcome isn't pretty and the pained look of this face of Plato says it very well.
Sunday, 17th August 1913: Immobile Faces Of The Jurors Beginning To Show Weariness Of Three Nerve-racking Weeks, The Atlanta Constitution The Atlanta Constitution, Sunday, 17th August 1913, PAGE 16, COLUMN 1. (By Britt Craig.) Sol Higgins, who is something of a philosopher as well as an interested spectator of the Frank trial, emerged from the courtroom yesterday at noon, blinked one eye at the glaring sun, and remarked to the man beside him who carried the price of two beers: "You know, there's three things that Providence, Himself, don't happen to know, namely: How to argue with a woman, where you're wife's goin' to whet her knife when she cuts meat, and just 'zactly what's on the minds of the Frank jury." And Sol is probably right, for there are some things that are beyond even Providence. Not even a psychological search warrant could get results. From the present attitude of this dozen good men and true, you would first suspect that they were sitting in a regular session of the board …Mususu
anecdote from the surgeon that operated on Pope Leo XIV: "On the second day after the operation, we turned around and found him arranging the chairs in the chapel himself. We said, “Holy Father, we can do that.” And he replied, “It doesn’t matter. I can do it, so I will.” What can I say? He really was an absolutely ideal patient."
