Record Number of Ordinations in Charlotte Diocese - from the Roman Rite Parishes

On May 30, Bishop Michael Martin of Charlotte, North Carolina, ordained 10 men to the priesthood, setting a record high in the diocese’s 54-year history.

Brian Williams noted on X that eight of the ten newly ordained priests came from parishes directly affected by Bishop Martin’s restrictions on the Roman rite Mass and/or Communion rails.

Two mega parishes in Charlotte, which fit Bishop Martin’s preferred liturgical style, haven’t produced a priestly vocation in years. One of these parishes has over 12,000 registered families.

Additionally, one of the twelve new priests for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter grew up in Charlotte and was an altar boy at a Mass in the Roman rite.

Charlotte Diocese had, under former Bishop Peter Jugis, a relatively high number of vocations to the priesthood.

If the objective is married and/or female priests, it makes sense to destroy the kind of parishes that produce celibate male priests. So we'll have a priest shortage emergency, see?
